Not every young person needs a four-year university degree. Many need a practical skill, an industry-recognized certification, and a faster path to a stable, rewarding career.
At the same time, Lee County urgently needs skilled workers – including healthcare technicians, HVAC mechanics, electricians, welders, and other tradespeople.
The challenge is that while technical and trade programs are often shorter and more affordable than traditional college, they are also demanding. Many students cannot maintain a job while enrolled. Some do not qualify for federal financial aid. Others lack the family support or guidance needed to navigate enrollment, training, and certification. Too often, these barriers are enough to end a promising career path before it begins.
The Get to Work Scholarship is designed to remove those barriers.
Hands-On Training for a Stronger Future. Scholarship support can help cover training, tools, equipment, and other costs for students pursuing technical careers.
We support Lee County residents ages 17-29 who have clear career goals in a technical or trade field but face financial or personal obstacles. Scholarship assistance may be used for:
- Tuition and program fees
- Tools, equipment, and required supplies
- Licensing and certification expenses
- Essential living costs while completing training
What makes this scholarship different is mentorship.
Each recipient is paired with a Rotarian who checks in at least monthly, provides encouragement, and helps the student navigate challenges throughout the program. These relationships allow us to track outcomes over time, identify when additional support may be needed, and continue investing in each recipient’s long-term success.
We are not simply funding an education. We are building lasting relationships, strengthening Lee County’s workforce, and helping motivated young people turn career goals into meaningful, sustainable employment.
