Hoel, PhD Lee County Mosquito Control District - Malaria Update Dr. David Hoel was born and raised in Columbia, S.C., attended high school in Oklahoma and served 3 years in the Army as an ammunition specialist. Afterwards, David attended Texas A&M University, graduating in 1986 with a B.S. in entomology and later with an M.S. in 1993 with a specialization in mosquito biology. In 1994 he received a commission as a Medical Service Corps Officer in the U.S. Navy, serving as a Medical Entomologist from 1994 to 2017. He deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and served for 2 years as an entomology researcher and department head of the Vector Biology Research Program at the U.S. Naval Medical Research Center #3 in Cairo, Egypt. Featured Speaker for October 18th Meeting: Dr. Kevin Reynolds, DPT Fitness Quest Physical Therapy Dr. Kevin Reynolds is a native Floridian born in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. Kevin attended Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL where he obtained a Bachelors of Science in Biology degree. While attending NSU he was a member of the baseball team and sustained a knee injury, opening his eyes to the world of physical therapy. Kevin had a successful surgery/rehabilitation process and was able to return to athletics at a high competitive level. Kevin then went on to attend the University of Hartford in Hartford, CT where he earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Featured Speaker for October 25th Meeting: Lori Burke Offsite Meeting: Gulf Coast Humane Society Lori Burke, a committed advocate for animals and people, has lived in Southwest Florida for 14 years with her husband, two daughters, two dogs, and four cats.  Originally, from Massachusetts, she and her family have lived in Atlanta, Georgia; Shanghai, China; and Fort Myers.  She firmly believes that the only way to feel part of a community is through nonprofits.  While in Atlanta, she volunteered and provided leadership training at Hands on Atlanta, she was the Executive Director for Shanghai Sunrise, one of the first nonprofit programs of the Shanghai Charity Foundation, supporting the education of Shanghai’s under-resourced youth. She graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University and has been with Lee County Solid Waste since January of 2021. Prior to that, Kylar worked for the Department of Health. She enjoys working with the community and teaching others about recycling. Featured Speaker for November 15th Meeting: Gerard Sola Offsite Meeting: St. Charles Yacht Club Gerard has been a Rotarian, all in District 6960, for 12 years. He has held many positions both for his club and our district. Most recently, he was our District Membership Chair for the past three years. Gerard is currently our District Governor Nominee and will serve as our District Governor in 2025-26. Gerard is a member of the Rotary Club of Bonita Beach Sunset, a club that he helped to create six years ago. Gerard has three children, 18, 15 and 12. All of his children have taken part in many of our Rotary Youth Programs with his daughter having just returned from studying aboard in Germany last year as part of Rotary Youth Exchange. Kevin attended Brooklyn College as a political Science major for 2 years and enlisted in Navy February 2nd, 1976. He retired September 5th, 2005. Kevin worked at Alamo/National Car Rental for 12 years as Sales Manager. In December of 2008, he was asked if he could help as finance Officer and in 2009 was elected as Post Commander. During this period, Kevin served on the American Red Cross board for 9 years, the Police Athletic League (PAL) for 13 years, River District Alliance for 11 years and the last 8 years as Chairman of the Board for RDA. Prior to his current position, Todd spent many years managing large scale communities with resort-style amenities after he spent the first half of his career turning around distressed restaurants. Todd holds a bachelor's degree in finance from Western Michigan University and has earned the CMCA and AMS designations from the Community Association Institute (CAI). Volunteerism has been very important to Todd. He has served on several boards and committees to facilitate business growth in his community and has worked to provide resources for the food and housing challenged populations.
